Bring In Plants to Overwinter, not BUGS 🕷🐞 🐜
Greetings Good GROWer ,
I hope this fall weekend finds you SWELL 🤗
Last week I shared which plants to consider overwintering indoors and the advantages to do this.
Today, I had planned to show photos our atrium filled with plants but mother nature had other plans. After one frosty night, the plants are still outdoors enjoying two more weeks of unseasonably warm temps.
This fall, we will be overwintering:
We've successfully overwintered this several times in the past and growth can be significant in year two starting with a mature plant.
We've overwintered one plant for several years and each year it comes back beautifully. I'm not sure which variety it is, but it's larger than what I can typically find at nurseries in our Minnesota region, so we keep bringing it inside.
our hummingbird #1 favorite plant in 2023...we successfully overwintered one a few seasons back.
We bought this from a local grower last fall and it was incredibly root bound…it barely survived the winter. It’s new overwintering container is larger and will be able to easily accommodate the root system all winter. This is the one plant we are bringing indoors for ornamental purposes. (see photo at the bottom of your newsletter)
So now that we've figured out what we're bringing in to overwinter, here are the steps we take to avoid hosting Winter BUGAPALOOZA...

How To Overwinter Plants...without BUGS 🪴🤔
Many unsuspecting gardeners think they'll only be bringing in plants to overwinter, but are soon overcome by an unwelcome swarm of overwintering BUGS. 🪰😱
Here's how you can prevent this from happening in your home:

50% OFF Fall Plant SALE 🌿🤑
Fall is my favorite time of year for planting perennials because it's less 'mucky' outside and you know where everything is growing, so nothing gets dug up accidentally.
Even in Minnesota, we have fall planted plants as late as October 31st 🎃, so for most of you, there's still time!
The good people at Joyful Butterfly have just announced their CLEAN OUT GREENHOUSE fall sale that includes many top butterfly plants including meadow blazing star, milkweed, coneflowers, and wild bergamot (bee balm). See what’s available when you click the link below:
50% OFF Milkweed and Nectar Plants for Fall Planting ⬅️ 🧐 (automatic discount, no code needed)
Coming Up Next
We'll continue the overwintering conversation moving from plants to...SWALLOWTAILS❣️
Until then,
