Which Milkweed Grows UNDER WATER?
Happy Easter Weekend Good GROWer🌷
today’s newsletter take a deep dive on milkweed…into our water feature❗️🤔 Some of the worst garden failures, and biggest accomplishments over the past 15 seasons are the results of curious garden experiments. 🧪👨🏽🔬
Before we discuss our latest garden lab results, here’s an important reminder to set your DVR to record something special this easter Sunday….

This Sunday on 60 minutes…I’ll just let Anderson show you:
Milkweed Options for your RAIN Garden
A rain garden is designed at a slightly elevation to absorb rain water and reduce the chance of flooding. This makes them a good option for two water-loving milkweed species:
The first milkweed variety is a dwarf-sized variety with white flowers that remains evergreen throughout the season:
Asclepias Perennis (aquatic milkweed) ⬅️
This native milkweed is both host plant for caterpillars and nectar flower for pollinators. Due to its short stature, it's a good option as a front border to taller plants, or grow as a container plant ⬅️
It's white and pinkish blooms are a favorite for many pollinators from butterflies, to bees, to hyper-winged hummingbirds.
Swamp grows best in areas with adequate to heavy moisture. In fact, I've seen actually it growing out of water on the edges of ponds and lakes. So that’s why we tried growing it under water last season ⬅️ (you won’t believe the last photo 😍)
Unlike common milkweed, swamp milkweed does not spread aggressively via underground rhizomes which makes it a good garden guest. 😇
