🎥 First Blooming MILKWEED + 5" Flowers❣️🌺

Which Zinnia Variety has Jumbo 5" flowers?

In partnership with

Happy Summer Good GROWer

this weekend the temps will near 100 degrees, which will inspire some our heat loving plants to explode...in a good way. 📈

The garden tour continues today with the second of three gardens just off the deck, which includes our first native milkweed blooms and the garden zinnias which will have the BIGGEST blooms this 2025 season.

But first, an update on this week’s garden visitors….

Garden Wildlife Report

I have not been super active in the garden this week, but did see a silver-spotted skipper and also snapped a shot of a mourning cloak on a walk down the Mississippi trail:

Garden Plant Report: Pretty in Purple

There are a lot of flowers that are about to bloom in the garden, but here are two current stand outs:

Zebrina Hollyhock

I featured these in a past garden tour video, but they weren’t really blooming yet. These are regularly visited by what I like to refer to as smallinators.

Purple Milkweed

The vibrant purple blooms are a sure sign of summer, and it looks like they’re right on time in 2025:

New blooms will be coming fast and furious in the coming weeks so stay tuned…For now, check out the latest edition of our Spring Garden Tours below…

🎥 Garden Tour: Water Feature Raised Bed

This is just the beginning of what could turn out to be our most spectacular garden bed in 2025. Perhaps you’re growing or could be growing some of these plants in your pollinator paradise? 🤔

Here’s what’s growing, and what will be blooming for butterflies later this season:

Garden Resources

Below are a few of the standout plants featured from the above video to consider now, or for future gardens:

Asclepias purpurascens (purple milkweed) ⬅️ (host plant and nectar source for monarchs and more)

Tall State Fair Zinnias ⬅️ (preferred zinnia of monarchs with huge 5” flower heads )

Tall Garden Phlox ⬅️ (favorite perennial for many pollinators and blooms all season with deadheading)
